Hello There

Hello there! I should introduce myself. My name is Jocelyn. I have been married 9 years to my husband, and we have 2 children together, a girl who has just turned 7, and a boy who is nearly 5. I lost my job when my company went under, back in 2002. I never returned to work after that, as the salary I would have gotten would have gone directly into the daycare center's bank account. I wanted to raise my own children, and I did so. The price we paid for that was having my husband be the sole provider. For a while, it was a difficult road, we had little extra money, and sometimes would borrow from one thing to pay another. After a few years, it got easier, as my husband gained seniority and got raises from different positions.

It finally got much easier when my husband got a new job with a large firm. His salary increased, and the bills were easier to pay. Unfortunately, the ride only lasted a few years. In this interesting economic climate we are in, companies are looking to downsize and outsource, and his job was downsized and outsourced.

This blog is about what is happening with us now, a family who has no one at a job. We are currently living on a generous severance package, but still need to plan for the future. With economic conditions being what they are, we don't believe that we are ever going to be able to go back to "what was". We have to find a new future and a new path. It's pretty scary. My experiences will not be yours. But in this time when many people are experiencing layoffs as well, maybe some of the things we go through will strike a chord. I hope so.
